Clean is an incredibly practical book for the man who is ready to commit to living a life of sexual integrity. Weiss gives a well-rounded assessment of the root causes of sexual addiction as well as the physical, spiritual, & mental consequences for continuing in that lifestyle.
As a man who struggled with sexual addiction throughout my college years and into my married life, this book was a refreshing, no nonsense take identifying the issues that cause sexual addiction, and giving practical solutions to overcoming the temptation to continue. The biggest solution, which on the surface seems to just be common sense, is actually difficult to walk out in real life, and that is holding yourself accountable to your spouse and/or to an accountability partner.
That idea really gets to the heart of Weiss’s message. The idea that honoring, protecting, and respecting women is what we should strive for.
Just as we view our sister as a whole person and not just as a sexual item, so should we view every woman.
In addition to tackling the more prominent issue of sexual addiction, Weiss dives into some outlying issues that can prevent true healing from taking place if not addressed. In what he calls “intimacy anorexia,” Weiss explains the importance of not withholding desired intimacy from your spouse as a way to control them.
Overall, there are a ton of practical applications from this book that I have begun to use in my own personal life. This is a book that I will highly recommend among my small group, peers, and friends.
